Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog – Hot New Music Release!

May 30th, 2008 fS No comments

From Fieldwork Records:
We are writing to let you know that our next release: Party Intellectuals, the debut recording from guitarist Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, will hit the streets on June 24th. Ribot is a widely recognized original on the guitar, with influence across multiple genres of music, including rock, jazz, punk, Latin, soul, 80s No-Wave, avant-garde and noise. He is joined by bassist Shahzad Ismaily (Laurie Anderson, Will Oldham, Jolie Holland, Secret Chiefs 3) and drummer Ches Smith (Xiu Xiu, Trevor Dunn’s Trio Convulsant) for their own brand of downtown New York City mayhem. Though Pi Recordings has strayed to the far edges of jazz in the past, this will be our first all-out rock album, though one filtered through Marc Ribot’s typically warped aesthetic. For a limited time, you can pre-order an autographed copy of the CD at www.myspace.com/marcribotsceramicdog

10KLF Stage Schedule Announced

May 22nd, 2008 MrBill No comments

Jambase now has the stage schedule online for 10,000 Lakes Festival – http://www.jambase.com/festivals/10KLF/.

One of the great things about the venue for this event is that the two largest stages – Main and Field – face each other and the music is scheduled so that these acts do not compete. So it is very easy to catch all the main acts on these stages, if you wish.

If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, you might want to enter our contest! It’s easy. . . Just check our our recent preview for instructions. But even if you don’t win, this nearby festival would be well worth attending – it has a really great atmosphere.

Interested in knowing more about the 10KLF experience? You can re-visit our coverage from 2007.

Movement 08 – Just Days Away!

May 20th, 2008 malliman No comments

Well the boys and I are already really excited about heading out to the 2008 Detroit Electronic Music Festival. You know the one. . . I’ve been raving about it since last year – as has everyone in our party from Movement 07.

This year the crew has grown. We’ve got a couple of hotels rooms at the super convenient Leland Hotel and have already purchased our afterparty tickets.

As always, DEMF offers a great line-up of artists. The Madison contingent is gathering on Thursday night to “study” the schedule. Rustin has already weighed in as follows:

NOT TO BE MISSED
Dubfire – absolutely awesome newer sounding, bass heavy, and very palatable/popular progressive house/techno. One half of Deep Dish. Here’s some video: (really dope at about 1:45) http://youtube.com/watch?v=K4dpret3D2I

Deadmau5 -live — making huge waves this year in electrohouse and does some amazing stuff with one of the mixers I have, so I definitely want to check out his technique up close. See here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XjRKLHUqYAE

Richie Hawtin — needs no explanation….

James Zabiela – does some really awesome stuff with the pioneer effects unit that I want to check out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ViHJMEonZe0&feature=related

Josh Wink – fucking legend…

WOULD LIKE TO CHECK OUT
Great chill house
Justin Long Mark Farina Miles Maeda
Drum and Bass
Dieselboy & MC Messinian

If your plans are fluid for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Think about checking it out. At $50 for a 3 day pass at the gate – it’s a deal that can’t be beat.

Cheers! – Mr Bill

New Monsoon at The Majestic Theatre, Madison, WI

May 14th, 2008 malliman No comments

The only question was, would it be a heavy one set or a moderate two set night? Sunday night’s performance at The Majestic was New Monsoon’s last night of a lengthy East coast to Midwest tour. Coming off of playing their 6th night in a row, Madison was the band’s final stop before returning home to San Fransisco. No worries there as they seemed to have left their best and longest jams for this Sunday night (also being mothers day).

With the lights dim and the orange glow from above, The Majestic is ready for New Monsoon. They start out with a long jam, and eventually go into “The Other Side”, which really Read more…
