72 hours to Movement..

.. or what has become an annual pilgrimage to the mecca of electronic music. DETROIT. The 11th Detroit Electronic Music Festival or MOVEMENT promises to be a blast. As usual, a stellar lineup at the three day festival this year with five music stages/spaces, 12 hours of open air music at Hart Plaza each day, and the crazy after parties to follow all night and into the morning. We plan on kicking off the action at the Beatport stage where the MINUS crew takes over on Saturday with the Hawtin brothers (Matthew and Richie) bookends to sets by JPLS, Ambivalent, Heartthrob, Gaiser, and Marc Houle. Electro/hiphop/house pioneer DJ Harvey gets the party started at the main stage (Vitamin water stage) and we look forward to catching Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson and Sean Reeves with their Visionquest live/DJ extended 4 hour set at the Made in Detroit bunker.

Sunday’s lineup has us already grooving to the sounds of Carl Craig and his 69 project (C2 will be digging into his crates for this one), Martin Buttrich, Guti, Loco Dice, Aux 88, Soul Clap, Al Ester, and more. The Movement Torino stage has us uber excited with a host of German DJs and producers on the lineup – Deepchord presents Echospace, Ben Klock and Marcel Dettman. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the 7pm “secret artist” slot on Main Stage – none other than Ricardo Villalobos, who finally makes a Movement appearance after years of visa issues and flight delays (last year) – thanks for the reminder, Aaron!

Adam Beyer at Electric Zoo in New York City, 2009. He closes the Beatport stage Monday night

Monday brings some old school magic in the form of Terrance Parker on the main stage, garage punk band The Dirtbombs playing classic Detroit tracks like Sharivari, Reference, Dubfire and a live set by Chicagoan Green Velvet. I must say I am also curious to see Fatboy Slim‘s set on the main stage though will have to skip over to the Beatport stage for my Adam Beyer fix. Plenty more acts to bop between… check out the full set listing on our calendar. And I am not getting into the after parties for now…

This year, the festival has a host of new features and facilities including iPhone apps, live streams of the event at ResidentAdvisor and also shareable on facebook, free wireless access for festival goers, and tie ups with local businesses to offer bike rentals, city tours and more! The weather looks like it is going to hold up with the low 70’s and sun in the forecast… perfect for dancing up a sweat!!!
