Review: Lucero @ The Majestic, April 5th, 2012

In what can only be described as a powerhouse performance, Lucero brought their Memphis style swagger to The Majestic Thursday night and left Madison wanting more.  The quaint theater was packed with flannel, facial hair and lots of ink.   Similar to an alt-country crowd, it was a testosterone filled room with a sprinkling of musically progressive minded women, who embraced the assertive style of musical magic brought by the likes of Lucero, Drive-By Truckers, and Jason Isbell.  Barely fitting on the stage, the nine member band including a power-house horn section, delivered an amazing performance, albeit a little loud.   Their American punk/country infused style pulled me into their southern groove, however I found that some of the abrupt endings, left me wanting a bit more of a crescendo.  Their southern boy- next- door- vibe, coupled with their in-your face style of rock will make me a fan at any future concerts. – All photos and review by Jules Boudreaux
