THE AFGHAN WHIGS BEGIN FIRST NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IN 13 YEARS THIS MONTH

Performing On Jimmy Kimmel Live On September 19th

September 5, 2012 – After teasing US audiences with three shows so far this year, The Afghan Whigs will finally embark on their first full North American tour in thirteen years starting September 22nd in New York City. Prior to the launch of the tour, the band will perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live on September 19th.

With many of the upcoming shows already sold out, The Afghan Whigs fall tour is proving to be more than just a coda for the band…

“There are a few different kinds of reunions. There is, of course, the cynical cash grab. Then there’s the reunion that pretty much picks up where a band left off, or the reunion that offers a chance to see a band that few people were able to see the first time around. But then there are reunions that exist pretty much as if to say, yes, we really were that good, and that’s where you’ll find the Afghan Whigs slotted…” Time Out Chicago

Since their reformation earlier this year, The Afghan Whigs have also released two brand new cover songs for free on their website: “See And Don’t See” (originally recorded by Marie “Queenie” Lyons) and “Lovecrimes” (originally recorded by Frank Ocean). Both tracks are still available at www.theafghanwhigs.com

Formed in 1986, the band’s career from then until 2001 saw them release six critically acclaimed albums: Up In It, Congregation, Gentlemen, Black Love, & 1965 along with several EPs. Fusing classic rock with grunge-era distortion and a heavy soul influence, The Afghan Whigs were one of the most renowned live bands of their time and now one of the hottest tickets this fall.
