Drive-By Truckers @ The Pabst Theater
February 28th, 2008 - by F.J. Simani

The Drive-By Truckers stopped through town last October and MMR was blown away by yet another amazing performance. This time around DBT will swing into Milwaukee at the Pabst Theatre and bring the Home Front Tour 2008. We at MMR are really enjoying the new cd (Brighter Than Creations Dark) and are exited to hear some of these classics played on the stage. Show opener, The Felice Brothers are also not to be missed. These guys have their own special twist of homegrown folk which is reminiscent of The Band with early Dylanesque sounding vocals. Madison Music Review will be there to document this legendary performance by one of the last, true rock and roll acts.

Check out the interview with Patterson Hood from last October.

What They're Saying about Brighter Than Creation's Dark:

"You could argue that the Truckers should have revved up this Skynyrd side more often. But instead they let the songwriting speak for itself, and it sings loud and clear."
- Rolling Stone

"Brighter Than Creation's Dark may be the Truckers best and most expansive album since Southern Rock Opera."
- Paste Magazine

"As guys wrestle with the encroaching responsibilities of work and family, they still often romanticize or cling to their shit-kicking youth; the Drive-By Truckers' principal songwriters, Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, represent each side of this coin. Using the broadest strokes imaginable, gravelly and grizzly Hood is the endlessly vigilant, fiercely protective papa bear, while laconic slick-talker Cooley the hell-raising, yarn-spinning f-up."
- Pitchfork

"It's one of several brilliant moments on Brighter Than Creation's Dark, and less than three weeks into 2008 it's hard not to escape the feeling that with this disc we may already have the best album of the year."
- All Music

"Brighter Than Creation's Dark is a tour de force that easily earns its praise and rings out as classically as any classic rock album."
- Lostatsea.net

"Marriages, divorces, line-up changes, good times, bad times - nothing can derail the rock 'n' roll juggernaut that is the Drive-By Truckers."
- Austin American Statesman
