Antony and the Johnsons: The Spirit Was Gone

Mercury Prize winning Antony and the Johnsons release their 4th album Swanlights on Secretly Canadian today. The critically acclaimed album is a record that is at moments heart breakingly tender, and at other times has a joyful gleam to its teeth. Included on the album is “Flétta”, an Icelandic duet with Antony’s fellow avant-garde singer/songwriter Björk. A special edition, which includes a 144-page hardcover book of Antony’s paintings, collages, photography and writing , is also out today and available through Abrams Image.

Here’s a beautiful video featuring the track The Spirit Was Gone from Swanlights. Kazuo Ohno, who died earlier this year, pioneered the Japanese dance form known as butoh. German film-maker Peter Sempel made this tribute to Ohno using archive footage.
