I’ve been recently listening to the debut album by Ex Cops, True Hallucinations.
Formed in 2011 by Brian Harding (formerly of Hymns) and Amalie Bruun (formerly of Minks), this 5-piece Brooklyn band has a hazy, psychedelic pop sound that I find enjoyable. The album was produced by John Siket (Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Blonde Redhead) and reflects a great variety of influences. At just over 30 minutes it passes by all too quickly.
Ex Cops were picked as one of SPIN’s “Best New Artists” in November 2012; and they suggest that you “File Next To: Teenage Fanclub, Feelies, Nick Lowe.” That feels about right.
They will be opening at the Frequency on Friday, March 1. The show starts at 9pm and costs $8.
Check them out if you can!
