Get your groove on down by the lake this summer!

The fabulous grooves of Kings Go Forth and The Budos Band will hit the UW Memorial Union Terrace this summer (June and July). Both shows will definitely be our list – be sure to catch them both.

Kings Go Forth (June 19th) co-founded by bassist Andy Noble and vocalist Black Wolf, Kings Go Forth is a 10-piece band near the forefront of the soul revival. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wis., the group draws much of its inspiration from classic R&B artists of the ’60s and ’70s. With an ensemble that’s sonically diverse (three lead vocalists, a horn duo and congas, in addition to a full rhythm section) and also spanning a broad range of ages and ethnicities, Kings Go Forth has created a groove all its own.

The Budos Band (July 2nd) is the quintessence of Staten Island Soul. Their exciting new afro-influenced take on instrumental music has been captivating listeners from turntables as well as bandstands across the nation. Eleven pieces in all, their group consists of drums, bass, guitar, electric organ, two trumpets, baritone saxophone, and a percussion section employing bongos, congas, tambourine, guiro, clave, shekere and cowbell. Their music has been described as “compelling”, “unbridled”, “psychedelic”, “innovative”, and above all “soulful.”
