Review: Shpongle DJ Set from April 26, 2011

Shpongle is a UK based downtempo, psychedelic trance, electro-live music project with Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram as co-founders of the group, with a rotating cast of accompanying musicians and dancers. While the renamed Shpongletron experience will tour the major festivals in the US this year (Electric Forest, Coachella, Wakarusa and Bonnaroo), Simon P’s solo excursions as the Shpongle DJ Set was the party happening in town a couple of Tuesday’s ago. A miniature, oriental-shaped Shpongletron set took up the entire stage floor of the Majestic, onto which were projected lights and images to create a trippy, dark ambience. The music was a mix of ambient, dubby, psy-trance that had a surprisingly diverse Tuesday evening crowd packing the theater, dancing to the grooves… here are some pictures from the set. Enjoy!
