The Sea and Cake – Coming Soon to the Frequency!

I’m a fan of The Sea and Cake and their last appearance in Madison at the High Noon Saloon was a magic night.  So I’ve been highly anticipating their upcoming show on Wednesday, May 18 2011 at the Frequency. It should be a real pleasure to see and hear them in this intimate club setting.

I’ve been listening (repeatedly) to The Moonlight Butterfly – their newly released album on Chicago’s own Thrill Jockey label  – and am happy to report that it provides the delicate, relaxed and groovy vibe that I have come to rely upon from The Sea and Cake.

The band’s trademark sound centers around the guitar interplay of Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt, over the the rhythms of bassist Eric Claridge and drummer/producer John McEntire, and is ultimately defined by Prekop’s obtuse lyrics and soft-sung vocals.  The Moonlight Butterfly adds electronic textures and rich production values to this formula that reward close listening.  (As usual, I recommend that you Turn It Up!)

Thrill Jockey is streaming the album here:   www.thrilljockey.com/catalog/index.html?id=105297
Listen. Enjoy. Buy. Then, go see them perform live!

I recommend buying advance tickets for the Frequency date.  (There is no worse feeling to me than arriving without a ticket to a sold-out show.  Such a disappointment that would be!)

The Sea and Cake is also playing on May 19th at Turner Hall in Milwaukee!
