Pistol Pete: Live at The Frequency, December 29, 2009

What a great way to end 2009’s Chicago Blues Tuesday run at the Frequency… Pistol Pete was in the house to rock and wow a crowded early evening crowd that was ready to get the New Year festivities started. His playing style is described as psychedelic blues rock, and one has to see him live to appreciate his virtuoso guitar chops, beautiful singing voice and crazy stage antics. Tuesday’s show saw him play blues guitar while chugging down his beer, play the fret board with his empty beer bottle, play the guitar behind his back, with his tongue,… you get the drift. And it all sounded great! Some of my favorites from the night were his renditions of Prince’s Purple Rain and John Lee Hooker’s Pots On, Gas On High.

Not to miss the new format for the Chicago Blues Tuesdays – With no $5 cover charge, it’s going to be a free show every Tuesday evening. The hat (or empty beer jug as is the case) gets passed around (or shepherded by Queenie). A.J. Love, the man behind the shows, makes it clear that “I loves the blues so much, I will continue to bring artists to town even if it means putting in money from my pocket”.  Keep the good work up, A.J.!
