I ambled into The Frequency this past Tuesday evening to be
blown away (yet again) by the beauty of listening to the
hard-rockin', gritty-sweet sound of Chicago Blues played
in an intimate
club setting that is the Frequency. This Thursday's featured
performance was by the Linsey Alexander Band. This was my
first introduction to "The Hoochie Man" (more about the name
later) and so I had to do some digging online. Linsey was
born in Mississippi, raised in Memphis and moved to Chicago
in the '50's
where he has been putting a smile on the faces of blues fans
for more than 50 years. An accomplished guitarist and vocalist,
Linsey has shared the stage with several blues legends
including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Magic Slim and others. Well
into his 60's, he wields the guitar with the energy of a
20 year old and is sure to get you up off that bar stool
dancing. At times, he gets a mean look on his face and
it may seem that he is glaring at you, until he breaks into
a wide, gap-toothed grin that has you quickly smiling. For
Mr. Alexander is a big man and you don't want to be messing
around with the man!
And Linsey was not alone in rocking the joint! An an
all-stars blues cast was on stage supporting (and at times
leading) with Ronald Simmons, Linsey's
bass player also in from Chicago, Madison local and Tuesday
regular drummer Joey B. Banks on the drums, Joe Nosek of
the Cash Box Kings on the harmonica, and the host of Chicago
Blues Tuesdays, A.J. Love on the guitar. Enjoy these pictures
from a fun show at The Frequency!
