Man
Man/Yeasayer High Noon Saloon 9:00
PM / $14 cover / $12 advance / 18 and up April
17th - by F.Simani
Some
of you might have caught the Man Man performance when
they opened up for
Modest
Mouse at
the Orpheum Theater back in November. When
people speak of Man Man you usually hear of their intensity
and their
exuberant live performances. They are known for their
multi-instrumental style that centers on the piano playing
of lead singer Honus Honus accompanied by the full band
shouting and singing and you can always expect a wide
variety of other instruments played by the rest of the
band. The band is equipped with an arsenal of instruments
such as the Clavinet, MicroKorg, Sousaphone, Saxophone,
Flute, Drum Set, Euphonium, Fender Jazz Bass, Danelectro
Guitar, Xylophone, Melodica and various percussive instruments
including pots and pans and toy noise makers and horns.
These
guys will make a lasting impression on you. Fans of Captain
Beefheart, Frank Zappa and Tom Waits should
not miss this show. Their latest release, Rabbit
Habits is getting a great deal of praise
from the critics.

I
am really excited to catch the opening act, Yeasayer.
This experimental
band out of Brooklyn, New York has a sound that is
tough to describe. Yeasayer has been known to describe
their music as "Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel".
I would have to say that once you listen to All Our
Cymbals you will find hints of afro-pop, indie rock
and world beat polyrhythms. They seem to take the basic
musical ideas of the past and turn them around with
their own ultra-modern twist using heavy echo delay,
synthesizers and random electronic textures. All Our
Cymbals (buy it here) was actually on my Best Releases
of 2007 list. Yeasayer is Anand Wilder, Chris Keating,
Ira Wolf Tuton, and Luke Fasano. Fans of Brian Eno
and David Byrne, TV On The Radio and Animal Collective
will dig this band.
