On Friday night, Madison will paint the town pink as Women Rock for the Cure to observe Breast Cancer Awareness. I might not be wearing pink, but I do plan to check out Sonya Kitchell and The Slip performing at High Noon Saloon. At 19 years old, Massachusetts-bred singer/songwriter, Sonya Kitchell is touring this fall in support of her new album, This Storm. Kitchell will be backed by indie-rockers The Slip.
Sonya has recently been enjoying ongoing creative partnership with jazz legend Herbie Hancock, with whom she just wrapped a globe-trotting tour as a featured vocalist. Paste Magazine calls Kitchell's voice "a smoky, expressive instrument that she deploys confidently and with preternatural restraint." I have to agree.
Hope you can make it out to support this great young artist - and "do good" while you are at it. (A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to Susan G Komen for the Cure.)
