Vetiver - Tight Knit
Sub Pop Records

Tight KnitVetiver recently played Madison, within the friendly confines of the Barrymore Theatre, backing up Gary Louris.

I named this as this one of my favorite shows of 2008... I mean, my god, The Mekons opened and played what I thought was a really special acoustic set. Then Vetiver came out with Gary Louris and promptly captured the house! They didn't let go either.

I really dug Vetiver's rich and soulful sound behind Gary. So I was excited to receive an early review copy of their newly released album - Tight Knit.

I have now listened to this album every day for past couple weeks, and I like every track. I've found that this album works for me anytime of day - in the morning - at the office - or later at night when I turn it up on my rig in the man-cave.

Vetiver is headed up by songwriter Andy Cabic - and Tight Knit is their fourth full-length album. It's got a nice dreamy vibe, with lots of musical texture.

I had a hard time selecting the songs to stream for you. As I would listen to the album, I'd think - "I've GOT to include this track" with. each. song.

So - here's the last three tracks:

If you like this, then please buy the album. This is a record meant for listening from start to finish...

... and I'm a big fan of Sub Pop Records - they've got a great artist roster and their media relations people are very cool. So think about buying it direct!

My grouping: Late Nite Vibe

Andy Cabic grew up in northern Virginia and spent a few years in Greensboro, North Carolina, playing guitar, writing music and recording as a member of The Raymond Brake, which is where he first met future Vetiver members Trippe and Dunn. After moving to San Francisco, Cabic helped form the rock band Tussle, and at the same time began recruiting other local musicians, friends and confederates, including Colm O'Ciosoig (My Bloody Valentine), Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star), Devendra Banhart, and Joanna Newsom, among others to record the 2004 debut - Vetiver.

Vetiver has since gone on to release two more full-length albums, To Find Me Gone and Thing of the Past. In addition to leading Vetiver, Cabic also serves as guitarist and singer with his longtime friend Devendra Banhart’s various touring ensembles.

"Luminous and surprising, Tight Knit unfolds like a road trip through the Appalachian Mountains of Cabic's native Virginia."
