Robin Trower
Barrymore Theatre - Saturday, April 5th, 2008
8:00pm $35

Robin Trower has been a Guitar Hero for decades now, since acquiring the "guitar god" limelight for awhile during the 1970's.

Trower was an original member of Procol Harum in 1967 (with hit singles including "Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Conquistador"). After going solo in 1973, he established the style that brought him individual fame with his power trio, the Robin Trower Band. His Hendrix-like style and Strat/Marshall tone was well known to live music fans and guitar worshipers during this period. I had all his early albums – and saw him in the mid-70’s at the Chicago Auditorium touring behind Bridge of Sighs. It was a tough ticket to get, and a great concert.

Trower has said, "I'm always practicing and I'm always trying to improve my playing, but it is in front of an audience that I really get to feel the music.” If you get to this show, you’ll understand why. It’s a powerful and visceral guitar technique best played loud. So I’m quite excited to see Robin Trower again! And it should be particularly fun to see him in the confines of the Barrymore. This performance will be his final US show on the 2008 world tour, before it continues in the UK and Europe.

During the mid-70’s, Trower’s style was very moody and atmospheric with flashes of stunning guitarmanship. Later recordings ventured more into the blues rock arena, as he has followed his muse. The Robin Trower Band has released 24 albums over the years, and his discography includes another 17 albums (including Procol Harum and collaborations that Robin has done with Bryan Ferry and Jack Bruce). On this tour, the Robin Trower Band has been performing songs spanning Robin’s entire career, including new material from his latest release, Seven Moons, a collaboration with Jack Bruce (Cream).

I hate to put labels on music - but Debra can file this under: "Rock / Blues-Rock / Psychedelic / Power Trios."

Past dates on this tour have sold out. Get tickets soon, if you are interested in seeing this real life Guitar Hero do his thing.
See ya there! - Mister Bill
