Many of you already know that Lotus
is one of my favorite bands. Popular in the jamband scene,
they come from the electronica side of the house - which
is where I like to reside. Lotus plays sweet beats, are
highly improvisational within a solid groove, and put on
a great live show.
This band does it for me in just about
every way. Fun to groove with, outstanding technical musicianship,
improvisational and atmospheric chill vibe. I first saw
them in 2006, when I went out on a lark on April 20 and
saw them at the High Noon. They were being backed by DJ Harry - who also played between Lotus sets and
jammed with them at the start of the second set. After that
show, I bought both Lotus' The Strength of Weak Ties
and DJ Harry's The String Cheese Remix Project.
. . It was a fun night.
Then last time they were in town - also
at the High Noon - they had a full house groovin' after
a great warmup set by Future Rock, who
I last saw with EOTO
- a side project by Jason Hann and Michael Travis of String
Cheese Incident. See how it all ties together?
So I'm excited to see Lotus again when
they bring the Escaping Sargasso Sea Fall Tour
to the Majestic
Theatre on October 25th. If you are interested
in giving them a listen, check out their myspace page -
www.myspace.com/lotusvibes.
If you like it, then come out and see them live and
buy their new live CD - Escaping Sargasso Sea.
. .It will be a fun show! And it would be great to see the
new Majestic Theatre filled with Lotus fans. This venue
was recently renovated and reopened by a couple of enterpreneurial
guys - Matt Gerding and Scott Leslie. Let's show them our
support. I toured it while under construction and it appeared
to have great potential as a live music venue. This will
be my first show there since it reopened last month, and
I'm really interested in hearing what Lotus is able to do
with the new "state of the art" sound system there.
I'm also looking forward to the opening
set by Unwed
Sailor - they look interesting, and I've never
been disappointed in a Lotus bill yet.
NOTE - Lotus will be playing at the Jam in the Dam at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, March 16-19,
2008. This is a great festival, which I attended this Spring
(more on that some other time), and a it presents as good
an excuse as any to visit Amsterdam if you've not been there
before.
See you Thursday!
