Matthew Dear and his band, with Nick Nice
|
I had been looking forward to Matthew Dear’s return to a Madison venue, ever since his last outing at the now defunct Cafe Montmartre (which was a disaster sound-system and attendance wise) a couple of years ago. I have seen him perform several times since at venues in Detroit, New York City and Chicago under his various monikers but always as a solo act. His return to Madison with band in tow for a packed Sunday night show at the Frequency was worth the anticipation and buzz. The second last show of a blistering 20+ city tour in less than a month, and hot on the heels of his latest release Black City, the 75 minute set covered new material including favorites Monkey and Little People, and a fresh take on the hit Don and Sherri from 2007’s Asa Breed.
This time, the sound was dialed in perfect and the band and audience were feeling it good! A great way to get the week started. And thanks to local support from Nick Nice who kept the grooves going on a nice and easy techno pace. Some pictures from the show for you to enjoy…
