Other Info | NATTY NATION Celebrates 5th Annual Black Friday Show Friday, November 23, 2012, 9 pm, High Noon Saloon, 18+ Show Special Guests: Mama Digdown’s Brass Band & Tropical Riddims Sound System Tickets: $5 advance $8 day of show (Madison, WI)— It’s a local music scene tradition! While the day after Thanksgiving features over the top shopping, an alternative definition for Madison’s music and culture scene has developed. The High Noon Saloon is sponsoring the 5th annual Black Friday Show as a safe haven from the commercial demands, and the over abundance of food and relatives, by hosting a show with Madison’s socially conscious reggae culture masters, NATTY NATION and friends. When Madison’s expatriates come home for Thanksgiving, NATTY NATION welcomes them with a cultural respite, their comfort food for the soul. It started by chance with a welcome home show for NATTY NATION after a tour of the mid-east and Africa in 2008, but has grown to be a holiday tradition especially for those returning home to be with family and friends for the long holiday weekend. Since 1995 NATTY NATION has written and performed original roots, rock, reggae music and toured across Wisconsin, the mid-west, from coast to coast, and in 2008 and 2009 around the world. This year’s local cultural flavoring brings Natty’s friends from another Madison musical mainstay, Mama Digdown’s Brass Band. Since their first show at 1993’s Art Fair on the Square, the band has traveled the world and produced a prolific portfolio of New Orleans jazz and street beat sounds. Most Madison parades, and an October Obama Presidential campaign rally, feature the foot stomping beats from Mama Digdown’s. They know how to get a crowd moving. Joining NATTY for the 5th year are more Madison friends, Tropical Riddims Sound System. FRP and JAM as the hosts of WORT’s popular Saturday reggae radio show (Noon-2pm) warm the gathering with a full array of reggae music: roots, rock steady, ska, conscious dancehall, dub & more. |
