New Release: Adultnapper and Mr C a.k.a. Sycophant Slags “Keep Off”
|Some fresh Tuesday tunes for you…
In its original version ‘Keep Off‘ is a trippy slice of modern underground house that is a tight and clean production. The release comes with two huge remixes from Reboot and Wighnomy Brothers. Reboot re-interprets the track into a brooding, crunchy builder. Trademark Reboot percussion, intricate and inspired phrasing accelerates the groove amidst freaky swirling undertones. A couple of long-serving legendary figures, the Wighnomy Brothers shake up the original into a dark, heavy and brooding funk monster. Full of clever edits, cuts and fx, the track showcases the brothers talents in the studio. Their ‘Detroittobrieflysort-ulle Remix‘ is a flailing beast – great use of Mr C‘s vocals yet adding their own narrative of freaked out horn sounds, pianos and club ready beats.
This sounds like a fun release… out on one of my favorite record labels – Poker Flat Recordings, Steve Bug’s label based out of Hamburg, Germany. The 12″ is out for you to get here but you’ll have to wait till Feb. 5 to get the digital download. Here’s the rest of the story behind the release…
Remember The Shamen? Pioneering electronic music act from the U.K. and purveyors of the rave scene of the 80’s and 90’s with Ebeneezer Goode and Move Any Mountain, two chart-topping hits that introduced the music to a global audience. Rapper/DJ Mr. C (Richard West), a leading proponent of the tech house sound and frontman for the band during their most commercially successful era has not been idle the past decade. In the late winter of 2002, Mr.C was on tour in North America when a snowstorm hit and he found himself snowed in & stranded in New York City. So with his friend, Francis Harris a.k.a. Adultnapper, decided to go into the studio to make the best use of their stranded time. And there the Sycophant Slags were born. For the Slags, fun really is the name of the game; they leave the seriousness to their deep, dark & brooding sound.
