Preview: Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at High Noon Saloon

Jon Spencer founded the Blues Explosion, along with Appleton’s own Judah Bauer on guitar and drummer Russell Simins in 1990 after the folding of his former garage rock band, Pussy Galore. Their musical style is strongly rooted in rock and roll, but draws influences from punk, blues, garage, rockabilly, soul, noise rock, rhythm and blues… In other words, its great!

We saw the Blues Explosion when they detonated at the 2010 Pitchfork Music Festival, and it was one of the highlights of the festival. Jon Spencer is much more than lead guitar/vocalist; he’s the ringmaster for this potent rock force. I found myself half expecting someone to come out and drape a robe over his shoulders at the end of their incendiary performance.

Their most recent album, titled “Freedom Tower – No Wave Dance Party 2015” was released on March 24, 2015 and it’s a good one. Needless to say, we are very very excited to see the Blues Explosion again. They are playing in Madison at High Noon Saloon on Saturday, June 13. Don’t miss it!
