A Madison favorite, Senegalese singer, guitarist and percussionist Baaba Maal is an international superstar whose releases range from contemporary Afropop to traditional West African music. Says Music Week, "Simultaneously traditional and contemporary, this is a towering work of art." Known as "The Nightingale," Maal is a member of the Pulaar (Fulani) minority. He serves as a Youth Emissary for the United Nations' Development Program. Maal takes his band, Dande Lenol (The People) for two months annually to play fundraising gigs for remote villages in Senegal.)
