Movement 2019 is Just One Week Away

Followers of Madison Music Review know that the Movement Festival – held each year in Detroit over the Memorial Day weekend – is our all-time favorite festival. Over the last 12 years, I’ve gone nine times. And I’m a person that typically doesn’t want to waste time repeating the same experiences. But this festival just never gets old to me.

In fact, some of our posse have been going to Hart Plaza since the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001… We can even remember when Grandma Techno was simply another civilian at the fest, and didn’t have her own entourage and reserved spots.

We are excited to be returning this year. Are you going?

If this is your first trip to Movement, let me give you some tips:

  1. Download and use the Movement app to plan your schedule for acts that you want to see. But allow yourself to throw those plans aside when you get caught up in some performer that you never heard before.
  2. Take care of your feet. Bring a couple pair of good dancing shoes. In case of rain, you will want a spare, dry pair. Also bring plenty of socks so that you can switch into fresh socks daily and before heading out to the after parties. You’ll thank me later.
  3. Don’t forget to eat. There are always some delicious food options among the vendors at Movement.
  4. Some of the best times happen at the after-parties. Try to buy after-party tickets in advance. Many parties sell out, and all of the ticket prices are at a premium at the door.
  5. Remember that this is a marathon, and not a sprint! Pace yourself.
