Movement 2019 Reflections

After months and months of anticipation, Movement 2019 has now come and gone. MMR has been attending this three-day music festival since 2007 (when it was still known as DEMF – Detroit Electronic Music Festival). It’s changed over the years – of course – but it continues to be an exceptional festival experience.

The weather was somewhat less than cooperative this year, with rain showers each day and a severe storm warning on Saturday that required evacuation of Hart Plaza. But it never dampened the spirits of those who came out to dance to the beats, and on Saturday and Sunday evenings the weather was damn near perfect.

I’m not sure what the official attendance was this year, but it felt less crowded than in years past, which I appreciated. It seemed full, but we had no problem getting onto the dance floor at any of the stages.

Day One at Movement always feels like a homecoming. Walking up the Hart Plaza and gradually hearing the beat increase in volume until the Stargate comes into view, one can’t help but feel thrilled. The tribe has gathered.

We saw so many great sets, and ran into so many old friends. My favorites performances were by DJ T-1000, Audion and Floorplan.

We also enjoyed seeing Octave One,  Josh Wink, Amelie Lens, Virgil Abloh, STERAC, LSD, DJ Minx, Nastia, Charlotte de Witte, Chris Liebing, Danny Daze, Mathew Jonson, J. Phlip, Heidi and MadLib.

Overall, it was another great vacation in Detroit!
